The Golden Eagle Winner 2019
Having won the Epsom Handicap three weeks earlier, Kolding claimed another feature race prize at $7.5 million in the inaugural Golden Eagle. Chris Waller partnered with jockey Glen Boss in a partnership that has quickly become one of the most formidable in the racing industry.
A clean jump was made by Kolding ($5) from barrier 4 as Boss settled around midfield. For the first time, Sunlight attained the front easily and slowed the pace down to a crawl, which most other horses and riders were not fond of. As Sunlight entered the home straight, Kolding found all kinds of traffic as Sunlight would explode away from the field.
Initially, Kolding and Boss were facing a nightmare result, but a gap eventually appeared and some terrific riding helped the four-year-old beat Sunlight by half a length late in the race. Chris Waller appears to have another superstar on his hands after such an impressive performance under the circumstances. It was a brave run for 3rd for the Anthony Cummings trained Mizzy. It took 1:28.18 to complete the race.
The Golden Eagle Winner 2020
As the $7.5 million Golden Eagle race came to a close, ATC Oaks winner Colette ($10) proved too strong for the field. As a result of wet conditions and a strong tempo, the James Cummings-trained mare won by a nose over Icebath at Rosehill. Dawn Passage finished third.
When Sierra Sue’s lead faded at the 200 meter pole, Icebath and Collete took off down the far outside, breaking away from the rest of the field and battling to the finish. As early as Autumn, Colette had shown a preference for heavy tracks, winning both the Adrian Knox and ATC Oaks on heavy surfaces. The win was undoubtedly the biggest win of jockey Koby Jennings’ career, who usually rides at the provincial tracks. A total of 1:32.67 was the race time.
The Golden Eagle Winner 2021
The 2021 Golden Eagle contest was another fantastic contest with I’m Thunderstruck ($3.50 favorite) unleashing a powerful surge down the center of the track under Hall of Fame jockey Hugh Bowman to win the race from the Price-trained Count De Rupee ($18) who looked the certain winner at the 200 meter pole.
Vangelic ($31) finished third a length and a half away from the winner. It was trained by Waterhouse and Bott. In the $7.5 million feature, Victorian gallopers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr won the biggest win of their careers. It took 1:27.90 to complete the race.
The Golden Eagle Winner 2022
At Rosehill, Peter Moody and Luke Nolen have won another $10m Golden Eagle with I Wish I Win ($8). Together they trained and jockeyed champion mare Black Caviar. I Wish I Win kicked and held off the Chris Waller-trained Fangirl ($11) from near last. It looked like Fangirl would grab the Victorian raider, but I Wish I Win held on at the finish. Third place went to Gypsy Goddess ($11), while fourth place went to Hope In Your Heart.
To conclude, the Golden Eagle horse racing event brings together some of the best thoroughbred horses, jockeys, and trainers in the world.
